Recently I visited the endlessly resourceful Glenorchy tip shop and found this old Vegemite tin. The unusual colour combo of red and white and the clean type based design made me misstake it for shoe polish at first. Vegemite is the essential food for any Australian (I believe you have to be raised on Vegemite to really appreciate it).
These days everyone (in Oz) knows Vegemite in the typical yellow, red and brown colours. Surprisingly the type-based logo has not changed much. The ‘G’ has become rounder and friendlier looking and the ‘M’ is wider and its middle strokes touch the baseline. They added a drop shadow and the line ‘For flavour tempting sandwiches’ changed to ‘Concentrated yeast extract’. Which one do you prefer?
