love this Tassie artists’ dark imagination

© Tom O'Hern

Tom O’Hern is an artist based in Hobart. My first encounter with his work was outside AdArt, where he had just finished a 4x4m wall painting of a general (very napoleonesque) and a king. I really liked his drawing style with thin black lines. “Reminds me on Tasmanias colonial history” I said to him “Love your work” I added. “Thanks. Yeah didn’t think of that” he replied. I nodded friendly and jumped on my bike. Whilst I rode down the street I realised, that he probably took the piss out of me and i smiled to myself.

Maybe one day I might be able to afford one of his work… until then there are galleries (Bett Gallery Hobart) and his blog (click)

Ah yes! So he’s responsible for the awesome bat on the billboard on the steepest bit of Molle St. I love that.
